Fastest external USB-C Drives?

Can people help provide background, latest products, recommendations, etc?

Device limitation is USB-C @ 5Gbps throughput, of course.

Is this SSD-class speed? Or spinning HDD still?

Currently, I have the Kingston Nucleum USB-C hub. When working at home, I tend to have a 1080p HDMI monitor and USB-PD plugged in to it. Would this likely impact the real-life throughput / contention / etc?

I am just trying to "max out" the usability and devices I can attach of the MacBook.

If you want speed, you'll definitely want SSD rather than HDD.

It's an external USB-C (or USB-A) SSD that is very fast and is well-designed for bus power use, since even at peak it uses less than 3.5 Watts.
