I'm trying to prepare my TB Macbook Pro for sale. I read these directions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201065

Do I really need to follow all the (somewhat confusingly explained) steps here? Isn't there a simpler way to just reset everything? In particular, is the sign out necessary for all the services, and the extra step for TB MBPs under 6?

Also, do I really need to be logged on to the internet? I've erased some files from my Dropbox on this computer and don't want this information to sync to the cloud (and therefore affect what's on my new 13" MBP).

I just want to hit a button and be done.

It's best to follow those instructions given by Apple, otherwise any potential buyer will have difficulty getting the machine over to his/her name with their Apple ID. Selling Apple products has become more complicated now that an Apple ID and password are required. All necessary though to prevent fraud and theft. Bottom line... do as Apple says and you should have a smooth sell.

In the time it took you to post this you could have signed out of all of your services and be half way to having a properly restored Mac.
