FAT32 partition is not excluded from Spotlight

I have a FAT partition on an external drive. Whenever I mount it, CPU usage goes up. I sometimes shut the mds process via activity monitor.

I've tried adding the partition to the list of thing excluded from Spotlight, but when i drag-and-drop the partition in the list, nothing happens.

Is this a known problem?
