Happened this morning. One robber fatally shot. Schools on lockdown.

From the news report....

Chula Vista police said three people smashed the window to break into the Apple Store in Otay Ranch Town Center early Monday and were confronted by an armed security guard, who shot one of the intruders in the head.

The mortally injured man was found in the mall parking lot a short distance away, collapsed in his car, Chula Vista police said.

Two others, a man and a woman, were caught in an nearby apartment complex after a search.

Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution, but those restrictions have been lifted.

The eastern portion of the mall remains closed because of the investigation.

Never like to see someone killed over something as stupid as a robbery... but at least in this case it was the criminal, and not an innocent bystander or the security guard, who was killed.

Listening to the radio all the robbers were armed, shot their way into the store before opening. Guard killed the getaway car driver.

Luckily no innocent bystanders were injured.

Wonder if Apple is rethinking is all glass front. Seems like lots of their stores have been targeted because is so easy to "smash and grab".

Doubt it. Design and look have always been very important for Apple. If they lose a million or two each year because of robbers, it's nothing in their wallet. In the end, it's we, honest customers who pay the bill when some people misbehave.
