Do you guys think that apple would let me trade in my defected iMac for a MacBook pro of the same price? Also it is not within the 14 day period

Probably only if it is in the return period, otherwise - it is only going to be repaired if it is outside of the return window but within the warranty period.

would apple let me do this?

I really want to because this iMac has had way more problems than my pc that i had before it. I get at minimum 2 kernel panics a day and im really just getting tired of it?? If im persistent and give good reasons do you think they would give in??

Why not try to find out why you are getting the kernel panics first? I have a 24" iMac and have never had a kernel panic.

Simply giving up without trying to diagnose/fix the problem is silly. Have you taken it to the Apple genius to have them look at it?
