I bought a Core 2 Duo Macbook (Black) in Jan 07. It worked like a charm but started faltering last year. I had to get it repaired quite a few times..
Here's the problems I had with it..
1. Cracked palm-rest (forward-right edge of the keyboard area). Apparently this was a widespread problem and was replaced under AppleCare.
2. My trackpad button got really soggy (on the left) after continued use. This happened twice and both times, apple replaced the keyboard unit for me (under AppleCare).
3. My screen had a dimming problem. Turned out the inverter was faulty. Again, replaced under AppleCare.
4. Had problems getting my iSight to work. Took the MacBook back to the store and had it restored.
5. Finally, my left speaker stopped working. I called Apple and informed them of the problem. Due to the recurring issues with the computer, I was offered an exchange.
The process took less than 5 days. Thats faster than the average repair time. I'm quite pleased with the support I've received and highly recommend getting the AppleCare protection plan if you are planning on picking up a MacBook or MacBook pro.
Apple really does take care of its customers. They know that their products aren't perfect but they make up for it by offering you with unparalleled support.
