I've added a poll which includes the apps I've heard of.
[EDIT: Please ignore Vienna in the poll options. It does not sync with Google Reader and was included by mistake.]

Please bear in mind I am not asking about notifiers or small menu bar apps. I'm interested in full desktop clients that sync with Google Reader.

Thanks

I use Gruml, because it's free. For free RSS readers it really comes down to NetNewsWire and Gruml. After trying both, I prefer Gruml. It has more features. The upside of NetNewsWire is that it's simpler and has faster loading times.

I've been using NetNewsWire for a while and for the most part I'm happy with it. The only thing I've grown to dislike (and the reason for asking about the popularity of the alternatives) is the absence of an All Items list/section that seems to be present in all other readers.

I've tried Gruml briefly. I generally like it but would prefer if it had Growl support.

I don't necessarily need a free reader, I've got no problem at all with paying. But I've never tried the paid apps from the App store (Reeder, MobileRSS, Socialite, NewsRack) because I dislike paying for apps that I have not been able to trial beforehand.
