Favorites on iPad

I still have to hit the favorites button to make them go away after visiting a web page. I was hoping this would be fixed with iOS 9. It never did it on iOS 7, but since iOS 8, every time I use the favorites in Safari to go to a web page, the favorites stay open and I have to always hit the favorites button to make them go away. At first I thought maybe it was something goofy from updating over the air, so I restored as new from iTunes and still the same thing.
