Pretty simple really – what's your favourite Steve Jobs keynote from the PPC era? (Not including iPod/non-Mac events.)

After the somewhat woeful poll we just went through, I'm not going to subject us to another one. This is just a chance to share your highlights.

I'll start with mine:
◊ The Summer 2000 keynote. This was an awesome keynote, and you can tell Steve loves it. In one session he introduced the Gigabit ethernet, dual-core Power Mac G4, the Summer 2000 iMacs (Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Graphite, Snow) and the G4 Cube, as well as the pro mouse and keyboard, as well as the ADC flat-panel and CRT monitors. It was a very ambitious and forward-thinking launch for the company, moving away from fruity-iMacs and reaching fine-art levels with the refined designs of the iMacs and Cube. But at the same time, there are things not to love, like the Cube's failure, and the ADC.

◊ And here's one not many know about – the 2000 Tokyo Macworld keynote. The Japanese audience are just so appreciative of Steve at this one, and they were genuinely surprised and amazed when Steve unexpectedly announced two new products – the iBook Clamshell SE (graphite, 1st rev), and the Pismo Powerbook (500MHz – OMG!). It's hard for me to imagine such flagship products being announced in Tokyo, but they were a huge part of the notebook industry back then. I can't imagine Tim Cook announcing a new M2 Macbook Pro in Tokyo today :D

I love all of his keynotes. They are for me outward examples of the coming together of all of his experience, synergy as CEO, and culture/team builder, pushing Apple into my absolute favorite (and certainly memorable) period of Apple innovation & design. No one has really filled those shoes. I could see Ives having continued cultivation of that culture but he’s gone. Cook never filled the cultural vacuum left by Jobs/Ives for me. He did a fine job making money but the culture just wasn’t there. At least I didn’t see it.

Everything else for me really had been just meh. I’m a Jobs groupie, I guess. :apple:

Macworld San Francisco 2001. Literally just for how Jobs introduced the PowerBook G4 Titanium.

"We have the more powerful notebooks in the world.... but they have the sex. Right? They have the sex. We want both. We want both, the power and the sex."

Legend.

WWDC 2003 with the introductions of the WORLD'S FASTEST PERSONAL COMPUTER

Funny how my MacBook Pro is more powerful than that space heater. Heck even an iPhone is faster and more capable.

MacWorld New York 1999, specifically the AirPort introduction alongside the original iBook.

Steve was giving a demonstration of the new iBook, navigating Apple.com on the browser, when he suddenly picked up the Mac and walked it across the stage - demonstrating it was not connected to any wires! The crowd instantly goes NUTS!

Around the 14 minute mark in the above video.

I've seen that about a million times and it never fails to deliver :)

Apple were truly magic then - right time, right place...it can never happen again.

That one's good, I also like the one where he reveals the 1984 Macintosh (I know, that's not PowerPC :)
