After buying the USB modem from Apple I have been trying to get my 2.8 ghz quad-core Mac Pro tower to receive faxes. So far it's no dice. When I open System>Preferences>print & fax>and set it to accept and send faxes.
I noticed the only modem I could get in the device list window is title 'Bluetooth'. Since it is a USB modem Bluetooth should have nothing to do with it.
P.S.: The first time I plugged in the USB modem into an external USB hub the system did not recognize it. Apple's user guide refers to the device as it should appear in the Network Preferences as 'external modem'. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the modem made it show up in Netowork Preferences and from there it began to work normally for faxes.
So ... be sure the USB modem shows up in Network Preferences as 'external modem'.
