Hi all,
I'm looking for some help and information.
Ok - first - I use FCE 4 at home on my mac pro - all fine and dandy, but I would like to be able to edit some of my work videos at work. Needless to say, I'm not taking my mac pro to work
I'm editing AVCHD video converted to AIC 1920x1080i. The longest video I'd be working on would be an hour with most in the 10-20 minute range. I'd need to do transitions, possibly some color correction, use CHV text plugins for titling - mostly the end credits. Most editing would be done hooked to an external monitor (if laptop) although it'd be nice to be able to do some work on the built in screen (if laptop)
I don't have a ton of money, and I'm looking at what my best options - this is what I have narrowed it down to, but my questions follow:
1) buy a used mac mini with gma950
2) buy a new mac mini with nvidia 9400
3) buy a very old ('06) macbook pro
4) buy a not as old macbook w/ gma950
Ok - so those are my options. I'd prefer either 1,2 or 4 but my concern:
on the specs, it states:
Some FxPlug filters are not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors.
Does anyone know what isn't compatible with the intel gma chip? Would any of these work ok with what I need (let's face it, a mini is really just a macbook but smaller without a built in screen)? Could I get away with a macbook or a mini or am I going to HAVE to get a MBP. The processor on all of these are well within the requirements of FCE - but the video chipset seems to be the killer.
I've read somewhere about editing some plist, but I have no idea what, where, how and what that would do for me.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know what I can afford, I just don't know if it can handle what I need to do...
ps - I should note of the laptops I'd prefer a regular macbook as I'd like something smaller then 15.4", but I need to find what's possible first
