FCE: how to rename clips in batch?

I recently tried converting our vacation (avchd) clips from 3 different memory cards to FCE. Works fine, but I have one very annoying problem. Somehow my camera started to rename the clips from 1 for every card. When I import all the clips into FCE, the clips get a sequential name, but the numbers restart for every memory card. I would like to have all these clips in one big sequence so I can keep track of time and day when I shot these so I do not get them in the wrong order.

Is there a way to select multiple clips and apply a new naming convention to them from within FCE or any other solution? It's a real pain having to rename over 200 clips manually...

I'm not aware of a feature that does such a thing, but I never really needed it.

What you could do perhaps is rename the video files on your scratch disks using any 3rd party app available, and then reimport them in FCE.

I always found this to be a pain in the @$$
when I have 40 clips, I have to rename them one at a time.

I would like FC to be able to do such a simple feature.

use automator to rename the files, the re import them to your project.
