FCP - connecting camera to computer???????

I have FCP 5 installed on my macbook but I really don't know what to do from here. How do I connect my camera to the computer; will FCP recognize the camera once connected correctly; do I need to purchase any additional equiplment for it to work . . .?

In my experience of using FCP, the equipment used included a clamshell, external harddrive, external tv monitor and dvd/vcr, in addition to the computer and software. I don't need all of that do I?

I just wanted to practice with the program, but have no clue of the technical stuff. Any suggestions/tips?

If your video camera has a Firewire output, use a Firewire cable to connect the camera.

And that should be all i need? I believe it does, its an old digital camera - back when the transition to digital began may years ago, lol, but I was able to connect to a pc via firewire, so that should work, thanks!
