Has anyone had any experience editing uncompressed SD and prores HQ files in fcp on one of the new i7 mcp?

Also how does color and motion run on it?

cheers

Uncompressed SD runs fine on my 2009 MBP. ProRes HD material does too. Be sure o use an external Firewire 800 HDD to store your footage on, as it is not recommended to use the internal HDD as scratch drive.

Yeah I have a graid drive i was gonna use through an esata expresscard which i'm sure will be fine. Just wondered how it handled higher bit rate footage.

Do you know how color and motion run?

Motion ran okay with the SD project I worked on, but I wasn't really taxing it. Color seems to be okay too, but I haven't used it that much. I use Compressor and DVD Studio Pro more than anything else.

But make sure to use the dedicated GPU for Motion and Color, you'll see a difference. You can use gfxCardStatus to change to it yourself.

Great tip on the gfxCardStatus, hadn't seen the one before. Thanks for your knowledge. Off to the mac store for a new 17" i7 mcb me thinks! :)
