I am picture editing a short film and working with a musical composer. I am editing on FCP on MAC, while my composer is using Cubase on PC. I need to export the movie into AVI. He couldn't open the .mov file. How can I do this?

Either get your friend to install QuickTime or use MPEG Streamclip to transcode the .mov (which codec?) to an .avi file (ask what kind of codec your friend needs to have in order to use that .avi in Cubase).

.mov and .avi are only containers for different codecs, so the actual codec is more important than just the container.
