Howdy. I make videos of amature (high school) wrestling tournaments. I have been doing it for about four years, and the demand for my videos has increased significantly. I do not have any formal training (or informal for that matter). It has been 'learn as you go'.
Most of 'head scratching' has been focused on filming and post production. I have also learned basic motion graphics. What I have spent little time on is actually organizing my projects.
The championship finals for a wrestling tournament, is comprised of 14 matches, divided by weight group (103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 280). Each match is made up of (3) two-minute periods. I usually have 2-2.5 hours of video, of which I actually use ~90%. What I need to do is have each match be a unique, finished item.
So, what I do is import all of the tapes. Then I make each match its' own sequence. I do the post-production work, add the intro video and background audio loops. When all is rendered and complete, I make a self-contained QT movie. The final step is to use DVDSP to produce the DVDs'.
Next year, I want to start offering custom DVD's. My friends can pick up to 15 matches (2 DVD set) from any tournament(s) they want. Then I can simply add the video assets to a DVDSP template I have created and send it off. So, it important to get myself organized.
I would appreciate any feedback on the approach I am taking. I have read the manuals several times. I understand what sequences, clips, bins, etc are, and how to use them. But, the manual stops short when it comes to providing explicit directions for organizing specific projects (and rightly so). What I am currently doing makes sense to me, but I am very aware that without formal training, it would be very easy to be doing things inefficiently.
Thanks
