Just bought iMac and NOW my Final Cut Studio (5.0.4) doesn't work in OS X 10.5.4. Talked to apple care and they said I need to purchase upgrade for $500. Is there any way around purchasing this expensive upgrade? Any free downloads somewhere? Apple told me that the 5.1.4 FCP upgrade is no longer available and have to purchase full upgrade to FCP 6.

Help my pockets are being drained

If your new iMac is equipped with Intel processors, that's the root of the problem. FCP 5.0 was written for PPC processors and will NOT work properly on IntelMacs. The first version of FCP to be compatible with IntelMacs was FCP 5.1 ... which was NOT a free update. It was a paid upgrade from all earlier versions including FCP 5.0 and was NEVER available as a download.

The FCP 5.1 upgrade is no longer available because it was replaced by FCP 6 (part of FCS 2).

So your options are to either upgrade your software to FCS 2 or downgrade your hardware to an older PPC equipped Mac.

Thanks DH

Guess I got to bite the bullet and purchase the upgrade.
