Let's say I'm importing video from a camera archive. If I check "create optimized media" does it import both the original video AND make the larger ProRes 422 HQ file?

I like the idea of having video that works better inside of FCPX, of course, and I understand that optimized media will be a bit larger than the original, but I don't want to more than double the space required to store videos with the original and a larger optimized file.

Just did a test.
If you select Copy files to Event folder then yes it will bring that in.
If you dont it creates a short cut.
This is a good thing and bad.
I goofed one time where I thought I had all the files in my system.
I took a drive home and forgot it was referencing to it :p
The only strange thing about my test is that I used an R3D file converted to ProRes 4444 at 4K 2:1 (4096x2048).
Well FCPX considers that as optimized.
Freakin huge :p
