For anyone who is interested, i emailed Brain Farm a studio i love...and seeked their opinion on FCPX heres what Eric said:
it's always wise as a working editor to know all the different systems. this instantly makes you more valuable than someone that's locked into only one. all the freelance editors we hire have experience on all systems. if you know how to make the different systems work together (this is what i do), even better. the only thing i wouldn't do is stick with only FCP7 - it's been EOLed. its only use now is finishing current projects and giving you access to old ones. it has maybe a year of relevancy left.
i haven't had a chance to try FCPX since we're very deep in post for Art of Flight at the moment. but we will most certainly try it this fall. the emotions are running pretty high on both sides and i think by this winter everyone will have a better idea of where FCPX fits in the grand scheme. most of us in this shop grew up on Avid, so switching isn't a big deal.

Heres what i emailed:
Hi Guys
As you have been very helpful in the past. I thought i would come to you.
What are your opinions on final cut pro X? Many Pros are saying its not up to the level that FCP7 was and its just a glorified iMoive. Im looking to try and get myself a gig in the editing world would you say stick with FCP7 or start to learn FCPX
Will you be upgrading?
PS: im literally peeing myself with excitment for the new Rice movie.
