FCPX (and most other editors) take a lot of space for scratch files, cache files, render files, etc. In FCPX by default these are in the library, a package of multiple files and folders presented to Finder as a single item.

The easiest way to manage and safely delete unneeded FCPX files is using Library File Manager which is about $20: http://www.arcticwhiteness.com/finalcutlibrarymanager/

You can do most of these things manually within FCPX but it requires more steps.

If you have a small SSD boot drive this shows one complication of that.
