I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on the internet.

If I use proxy media, when importing videos into Final Cut Pro X, the smaller files are created in the Transcoded folder (in the Events folder). The Original Media folder is there, as expected. When I import, I have proxy selected, and optimised not selected.

Working with proxy media - as opposed to optimised media - is faster, hence me using it rather than optimised media.

I've seen a few people say that, when working with proxy, one must switch the playback to optimised before exporting the final video. I can't understand why they're saying this.

I've tested this and found that, when exporting a video with proxy playback, and then with optimised playback, the exported video is the same size and quality (from what I can see).

In other words, is FCPX exporting the highest quality REGARDLESS of what playback import I'm using. At least, that's what it looks like. (Which is obviously the desirable outcome, which stops me form having to switch to optimised playback before exporting.)

Can anyone confirm this?
