Have searched around, but really could do with getting some firsthand advice, so....

Currently, I own FCP 3 and think it’s time I move to FCS and would appreciate some advice whether to get the latest version of Studio or the previous one.

Currently, in the UK, FCS upgrades cost (recommended retail price):

£449 to upgrade from FCP to FCS 2
£329 to upgrade from FCS to FCS

However, the FCS to FCS upgrade you can pick up from quite a few places for anything £270-300. Also I’ve found somewhere that sells the older FCP upgrade to FCS 1 for £99.

I have found some places that do the FCP to FCS 2 upgrade cheaper as well, and realistically I’ll be looking around £400 – maybe a bit more

So the cheapest route (marginally) to FCS 2 is to buy the version one upgrade and then the version two upgrade.

That probably sounds like a no-brainer, buy both. Sadly, I’m a cheapskate (although I prefer to think of it as being careful with my money) and would prefer to first get the £99 upgrade, see how I get on and sometime in the not too distant future, upgrade to version 2.

Despite looking forward to trying out the various apps and messing around, it’s really FCP and DVD Studio that I’ll be using (although I’ve a few projects in the pipeline that LiveType would be useful for).

Although I’ve read that integration of the apps is meant to be a lot better in FCS 2 and there are some very neat new features, it’s not to the extent that I think I would be a fool to myself sticking with FCS 1 for a while – am I wrong?
