My biggest fear moving from Intel to M1 was compatibilities. It’s a year in, and I figured most of it should be figured out by now, and thankfully that seems to be the case with my usage. I am trading in my Intel MacBook, and I was thinking it would take me a week to know if I was keeping it and returning the 14” or shipping it out to complete the transaction. I am day 2 on my 14” and VERY happy so far.
Once I completed the data migration, I found online to click the apple, about this Mac, system report, and software. This told me what was Intel, and what was universally optimized for M1.
Most of the software I had that was Intel I either hadn’t used in a long time and just deleted them, or were available as downloads for Apple Silicon. At this point I am just waiting for Sony Imaging Edge to update their software, everything else is compatible.
This morning, I am confident that any fear I had as far as running into issues with the different chip is gone. I’ve been very impressed with this machine so far. Im likely going to prepare and ship out the Intel Monday at this point.
I posted this so anyone that has that hesitancy from no ring on from Intel and fearing the bugs can feel a little more confident just double check on the important software you use day to day, if it’s Apple Silicon ready, you are in for a wonderful surprise.
