i was so pissed off when I saw this.
It's a very OCD thingy where I was hecka excited when I saw this.
People are always complaining how when you click the wake button, the screen just pops at you... well, instead, when you click the wake button on the iPod touch (2G), the screen will fade on unlike the iPhone that just pops at you. I know that this is very stupid, but my semi-OCD made me make this post. I am hoping that 2.2 will have this "feature" implemented. It just looks complete. (along with PUSH, C&P, GPS Navigation, and Nike+)

This is not a feature that the iPhone doesn't have, just a feature that is not utilized. When updating my iPhone (G1) from hacked 1.1.4 to 2.1 the screen began to fade in the way you described.

Only after having updated to 2.1 did it do this, and my install went awry at some point during the update so that might have been a reason?

The iPhone can do this, and does have this feature. You just can't pick and choose it.

It could have been a fluke that mine did it for a day.

Then again it was also beginning to crash often (still on 1.1.4).
