Feature or bug?

On my iPad when I am in Safari in portrait mode and tap the bookmark icon the menu opens up, I select a bookmark, and the bookmark menu closes. In landscape the bookmark menu does not close unless I tap the bookmark icon. What am I doing wrong?

Did you ever find a way to disable this ?. It's a hell of a waste of real estate.

I think it's a bug. Either way it really pisses me off.

OK- Just finished updating to 8.1 and the Bookmarks list still remains open after opening a bookmark while in Landscape mode. I have to manually close the list.

As the OP described, it closes by itself while in Portrait mode.

I thought this was a bug and 8.1 would fix it. Please don't tell me it's a new feature that's supposed to be there. It's a PITA.
