I'm in the market for a new 15" MBP....I can either get
Refurb for £2,069
Originally released February 2013
2.8GHz quad core Intel i7
16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
or
Brand New for £2,199
2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
with 2GB GDDR5 memory
Obviously, the newer machine has a Haswell chip, but I believe that is primarily a improvement on battery life....rather than raw processor power. Is that correct?
That aside, I'm thinking the refurb is the better option...but then, isn't the graphics card a better spec in the new model? Oh, decisions decisions......
Essentially both are somewhat overkill for my needs......but this will need to last me 4 or 5 years, so I want to get the best spec now. Of everything I do, some light photo/video editing is the most taxing...although I would like to create a VM area for Windows, rather than use Boot Camp as I do (did) with my recently dead 2008 machine.
Any thought on which is the better machine?
