When should we be hearing confirmation that this event is actually going to take place?

It has to be today right?

I've said this in other threads, but... exactly two years ago Apple had a last-Tuesday-in-February special event. They sent out the invites the previous Tuesday, and people started to share their invites with the rest of the web around 2:00pm (TUAW time), or about 2 hours from now.
Link: http://www.tuaw.com/2006/02/21/apple-special-event-feb-28th-this-time-for-real

I have never seen an Apple invite sent out with less than one week notice, so its today or not at all.

The reporting community was pretty pissed about last time - Apple gave them one week notice to show up in Cupertino - so they all paid for last minute flights / travel arrangements just to show up to see the freakin' iPod HiFi and the intel mini. I'd be surprised if Apple did that again, because they got a lot of flack for their rudeness.

And you know Apple... they're not known for things like arrogance... ;)

I have a sneaky suspicion the 'secret event' is the London iTunes Recordings. They are going to start in February, everyone assumes that it is going to be a launch of something...keyword there, assume.

It would be nice if TUAW and the like would let us know if the did NOT get any invite... save my refresh button the burden.

EDIT: appleinsider "The company, however, has yet to issue any form of invitation or acknowledgment of such an event, suggesting one is increasingly unlikely during that timeframe."

Well here's what someone suggested over at AppleInsider:
If they are booked for 2/19 Baltimore , 2/21 NY, 2/25 KY and 2/29 in nashville, that leaves only 2/20,2/22 ,2/23, and 2/24,, . My guess is either false story or one of these 4 dates . I'll put my money on the 2/22 date . Friday is best bet.

Makes sense, here's Linkin Park's complete tour schedule:
Tue 02/19/08 Baltimore, MD 1st Mariner Arena
Thu 02/21/08 New York, NY Madison Square Garden Arena
Fri 02/22/08 Montreal, QC Bell Centre
Sat 02/23/08 London, ON The John Labatt Centre
Mon 02/25/08 Lexington, KY Rupp Arena
Tue 02/26/08 Nashville, TN Sommet Center
Fri 02/29/08 Oklahoma City, OK Ford Center
Sat 03/01/08 Albuquerque, NM Tingley Col. @ New Mexico St. Fair
Sun 03/02/08 El Paso, TX UTEP Don Haskins Center
Tue 03/04/08 Los Angeles, CA Staples Center
Thu 03/06/08 Las Vegas, NV The Joint
Fri 03/07/08 Las Vegas, NV The Joint
Sat 03/08/08 West Valley City, UT The E Center
Mon 03/10/08 Sacramento, CA ARCO Arena

[edit] Of course it's important to note that it could still happen *anytime* (if this rumor is true). You can see how they are flying around day-to-day so there's nothing stopping them from flying back to NYC on one of their "off days."
