The Ultrafine line is 5 year old tech and the XDR seems overkill for office work. Had to return my last XDR due to an electronic frequency is emitted when in standby mode (MBP asleep).

So now I am not sure whether to grab another XDR or wait and just use the internal screen for now.

Is the XDR that crazy to purchase for office use if it is being utilized for so many hours of a day? Seems like the value may actually be there.

I'm extremely happy with my LG 23.8 inch Ultrafine 4k. Works perfectly all day / every time. No issues what-so-ever with my M1 MBP compared to what many people report with external displays.

I find that weird since that's the thing you're staring at all day long.

In fact, that's why I frequently rail against notebook computers. Ergonomically everything about notebook computers is wrong: small size, wrong angle, weak brightness, etc. And that's before you even lift your arms to interact with them.

Those people are probably the same ones cheaping out on a task chair (that they're sitting in 8+ hours a day) and their mattresses (where they sleep on 6+ hours a day).

Waaah, I want to spend $300 on a monitor that will last 8 years that I will be staring at 10-12 hours a day.

That's just plain asinine. But hey, their choice...

The 5k Ultrafine is a very nice display, short of the XDR, its the best and for what you need would be the perfect fit.

It took me 6 month to get it. In fact never had a problem before with laptops for everyday use - because i had high tables and regulated chair at my previous place, so laptop standing was not an issue except hands, which get tired of rising high. But now with low table and non-regulated chair - this is a nightmare.

The proverb says that you don't want to be cheap on 3 things, which separate you from the ground - your shoes, tires for a car, sleeping bed/mattress.
As for a monitor - it is really up to every person, 4k/5k large monitors strain my eyes, so those high end monitors don't always end up being best at least for me.
