About a week ago I have purchased the new Logitech MX Revolution mouse to replace my aging MX1000.
I did not particularly like the mouse (because of its shape and controls placement), and returned it to the store. However, this mouse has left a legacy behind it: Logitech Control Center version 2.1.3.

I WANT TO WARN EVERY LOGITECH MOUSE USER OUT THERE: do not EVER install version 2.1.3 on your Mac! This version also silently installs the dreaded APE Framework    - without warning or consulting you! It does install a dated version of APE too. And it uses a special Logitech haxie to do something funny with the mouse wheel.

I have noticed that the new version of Control Center was very flaky, but I had no idea why... Until I have accidentally found the dreaded aped daemon in Activity Monitor, and started trying to find out where it came from.

To say that I am mad at braindead programmers at Logitech is an understatement. For years I had to put up with their substandard drivers - and now they have reached a new low.

I don't feel like ponying up $20 for a mouse driver like USB Overdrive... so I wanted to ask everybody here - what mice are you using? What multibutton mouse are you happy with?

I swear that my MX1000 will be the last Logitech mouse I have bought... :(
