If you have an Express, Overnight package coming in - and it lands in the Memphis hub (as normal) -- Does FedEx FLY that package to the destination address (Birmingham, AL area), or do they always drive it down there?
I was just wondering how they might make the deadline; unless the overnight shipments typically DO get flown to the destination from that World Wide Hub in Memphis, TN.....Anyone know?
:eek:

Thanks out there -->

I checked that site, but they seem to have flights to BHM from MEM only for weekdays. I checked the "scheduled" section (although I'm no expert on using this website), and I didn't see anything that is scheduled from FedEx to originate MEM and arrive at BHM. Doesn't mean there's nothing scheduled to get from TN to AL, but I can't find it on the site. However, it is very useful information for folks wanting to track or locate general FEDEX flights, etc.
THANK YOU!
Somehow I have a sneaking suspicion that they are DRIVING my package from Memphis to Birmingham today. It says it left the Memphis facility at 3ish this afternoon. So.....bet it's on a truck somewhere.........LMAO!:D

Didn't notice that, but you're correct. Looks like they only fly on weekdays, maybe on weekends the volume isn't high enough to warrant a plane.

Looks like driving time from Memphis to Birmingham is only about 4 hours so it still should arrive in plenty of time. But, FWIW, I think with the tracking, when it says something like departed Memphis facility, that means it was loaded onto a truck. The truck might not leave until later tonight so don't freak out when there's no arrival at Birmingham scan in 4 hours ;)

It looks like Fedex has a nightly flight from Memphis to Birmingham. My guess would be it'll be flown.

noting the flight times on your link, it seems the flights leave Memphis and arrive in Birmingham before 5AM typically....that could mean the package has merely left the memphis sorting facility and is now waiting at the airport to loaded onto a plane sometime early monday which would allow it to be delivered in Birmingham on Monday

so my guess is that it's going by air, not truck

You've all been so helpful! Thank you a million times! It definitely helps me understand the tracking and helps me plan my day (a bit, anyway!). :)
THANK YOU AGAIN!

:)

If you register and go back and view the history for that flight, the only flights are on Tuesdays thru Fridays. So it might be driven to Birmingham tonight. Who knows what their reasons for that are, but if it's an overnight package and it was shipped on Friday, it should be there Monday no matter what.
