I feel like I have been a jinx on my laptops. I have had a MBP, MBA in the past that lasted for years. We needed a new laptop this spring and since they use Dell at work I purchased a Dell, as I would be using it for work. The Dell died, literally right at 2 months. I took it back to Best Buy and purchased MBA M4, 13” base model. I liked it, but it wouldn’t connect to the Dell monitor so I exchanged it for the 15”, 24/512, so I don’t feel a need for the monitor. I got that on June 4, and today at work I had a hard time getting it to turn on. Now it will not charge. I have run diagnostic test and it does say power port issue.

I did wonder if it is “ hard” on the laptop as when I am working the VPN I go on is windows.

So now I am going to exchange this at Best Buy again. I just wondered if anyone has had issues as well with the MBA? I have even thought of going back to Dell, as I was surprised that I liked it, but overall I prefer Macs.

Sorry to be rambling some. I am just so surprised at the luck I have had with the computers.

Any advice is appreciated. I also hope I don’t get black balled at Best Buy, but two of the laptops were defective.

Thank you.

I'm a little unclear on what's happening here. What does it mean to have a "hard time getting it to turn on"? And what diagnostic test told you you had a "power port issue"?

No VPN you're connecting is going to damage your computer hardware.

If you bought it a month ago, it's still under AppleCare. I would just go to the Apple Store for service since they'll be able to diagnose whatever is going on. If the hardware has failed, they will repair it or give you a new one.

Hi,

As far as turning it on yesterday, it just wouldn’t come on. I kept going back to it and pushing the power button and it finally turned on.

I used the Apple diagnostics and it indicated a problem with the power port. I had enough battery to use today at work and at one point the caps lock worked opposite what it was supposed to. So very strange.

Glad to know about the vpn. The Best Buy guy said the same thing, but said Macs and VPNs don’t get along. I decided to stick with Mac anyway.

I took it back to Best Buy and they replaced it. They couldn’t get it to charge either, he said obviously defective.

Thank you for responding.

Yeah... that's not based in fact at all. Macs work just fine with VPNs. I've logged hundreds of hours on my work's VPN just fine. You can get some really off-base advice from random tech guys who use Windows and don't understand Macs  Glad to hear you got your issue sorted, though.
