Here's how it works, I personally use the Aqara/Tapo kit and configuring Apple HomeKit is kind of hard, but they are compatible

With the Aqara set, you just need to input the SmartHome code included in the smart home device documentation (if you're buying smart home stuff *keep all the included paperwork because there is a QR code and an ID that is REQUIRED to connect your smart home device to your network)

TP-Link's Tapo, which runs the security system for my weed grow, including sensors (temp and motion) and cameras, I think can be integrated into HomeKit, but I haven't tried that hard. It was hard for me to try to setup when I tried it last

SO again, here's how it works
You turn on your smart devices
You connect to the wifi it starts, meaning if you get a Tapo camera you need to connect to the wifi signal it emits to start pairing)
Certain devices (I think the matter stratosphere) require a hub, and that hub needs to be connected to the internet using the same technique as two
You register it in apple home (meaning each connected device is viewable on an app on your macOS device, the apple home app, awesome for pointing a camera out a window and using it as a media device, I personally try to watch the sunset on my Tapo device)

I think you need to configure the macOS home app on the iOS home app, lemme try, yeah you set everything up *IN ACCORDANCE TO THE MANUL AND INSGRUCTIONS ON THE IOS/IPAD APP FOR YOUR SMART DEVICES* and scan the QR code for matter devices, my Aqara home hub was picked up, with cameras, and sensors, but I need to physically get up and scan the code lol

the hub is like 20$, cameras are 20-50$, sensors are packs of 3 for 30$, and there's advance stuff

hopefully this helps people out, and yes, its amazing being able to look out your window from macOS!
