Since I use the FiiO BTR17 with my iPad I will post this here, The BTR17 also works with the Mac via USB, or BT, Apple Watch BT, and the iPhone via BT, or if it has a USB "C" port directly. Here I am talking about my iPad. This is a great upgrade from the BTR7. The upgrades are very thoughtful. A larger battery to support is higher output. BT 5.4, the latest iPad is 5.3. One of the best upgrades is its USB ports, it has two of them. One is strictly for power, the other is for power and data. One thing I noticed when plugging the BTR7 into the iPad is it ate up the battery on the iPad. The BTR17 ovoids this with the power port. you can plug the BTR17 into the iPad as a DAC, and then with the power port plug that into an external power source such as an Anker Power Core battery. It has a volume control knob which is a big improvement over the rocker control the BTR7 has. Here are the details of the BTR17.

As with the BTR7, the '17 has a balanced 4.4mm phone plug. Plus an unbalanced 3.5mm plug. It has 2 independent right and left audio DAC/amps. Believe me, the difference in the sound between balanced, independent wire pairs, and unbalanced, common ground, is not subtle at all. With my ears, I am not the one to comment on its sound except to say it is an improvement over the BTR7. The introduction of the BTR17 was very timely for me as the two BTR7s I have are starting to have aging battery problems.

One thing I forgot the mention is like the BTR7 the BTR17 has excellent audio for phone calls.

It updates its software through the FiiO app.
