File Association Problem

I have just swapped to using a intel imac again, i sell macs, so luckily use and swap alot, and noticed this happen on occasion.
I have a alot of films, .avi. and once i copy them to my new system, i select one, get info, select to use vlc, and select change all, my problem is it doesn't associate all avi, just some, yet on other macs, like the powerbook i was on before, all change, any ideas, and is this a intel issue, as it has happened before on macbook pros i have used.

I had this problem as well. I have to rack my brain and remember the solution. It's something that finder screws up. I know that for a fact.

A solution would be appreciated thanks, as i have about 300 avi and they keep opening quicktime..

Get Info on a file of the specified type; in the "Open With" section select the application you'd like to open that file type with, then click Change All....
