Had a couple of power cuts here recently during thunderstorms. My system hasn't quite been the same since. At the moment for some reason it is associating files with apps on my old backup drive of Leopard (I've kept a version with Leopard as well as having a backup of my SL system).

So for example if I right click on a JPEG file I get the choice of opening it with Preview or Photoshop. Except that the Photoshop it wants to open is on the older backup drive, not on my current main drive!

How can I restore the associations to look for apps on the main OS drive instead of the backup one?

Search around for "rebuilding the LaunchServices database". There are tips about using AppleScript and/or Terminal to do it over at macosxhints (and probably here at MR as well), or use a program such as OnyX. The precise steps depends on OS version.
