My MacBook Pro 17", running OS X 10.7.5, is suddenly requiring a password when I ask to move a file to the trash. This is worse than annoying: Once I enter my administrator's password, the file I'm attempting to move to the trash disappears from Finder, never to be seen again; yet the trash stays empty and free space on my internal hard drive does not increase.

This is a terrible problem, since I have loads of large .mov files I need to delete. But when I try, it's as though my hard drive can never be emptied again. Please help!
