On the desktop I have a file named .ds_Store. What is this? When i toss it in the trash, it reappears after 5 seconds. Now it even shows up in every folder I open up. I cannot get rid of this pesky file. Thanks for any info.
Rooknut.

Go to your Applications/Utilities folder and lauch Terminal, then type the following:

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Then press Return, then type:
killall Finder
Then press Return
Then close Terminal

.ds_Store files store the information and physical layout of folders and windows. its just a way OSx remembers where and what files are in each folder, its a hidden file, which means that somehow you have enabled hidden files being seen. the above method will turn off hidden files being viewed.

File DS_Store

Thank you GGJstudios and DoFoT9

It worked like a charm. The pesky file disappeared and all is well.

Take care from Switzerland, the land of chocolate.
