File List over VPN

I'm currentley working from home on my MAC OS X G4 and connected to my office over a VPN link through a Vigor 2600 ADSL router. The link works fine except when viewing files located on a file share on a Windows 2000 server located in the office, the file list appears very slowly does anyone know of any fixes reasons etc or is it just the speed of the link (1mg download, 256K up) the file list is fine from my PC.
