Hello all! I had a question I hope you can help me with.

I have connected my 2 Macs and can easily access files via the "shared" area on the finder bar. I have Screen Sharing & File Sharing enabled.

Here's my dilemma - My best friend & I are wanting to connect our mac's in a similar fashion so we can access a shared folder on each other's computers from wherever we are, however I can't seem to figure out how to connect our computers. We were able to visit in person last week and I tried everything I could think of, but to no avail.

We live in different states, and were hoping we could store our collaborated files on each other's computers instead of using Dropbox & other cloud-based storage services. So my question is, since we aren't on the same network, and our macs have different accounts & Apple IDs tied to them...is this something that we can even do?

Thanks again for your help.

I have a 2012 Macbook Air and he's got a 2013 Macbook pro with Retina, in case this is helpful information.
