I use Screen Sharing and File Sharing on Macs all the time. You know, where you login to your account from another Mac and with File Sharing, move files around, or take the screen over with each respective feature.
I always make sure both features are turned on under "sharing," and allowed under the firewall (normally setup automatically by the sharing preference pane).
However, my iMac always refuses to be "connected to," as file sharing from any other Mac. It lets me do screen sharing with it from other Macs, but the "connection," to try to access its files never works. the iMac can access files on other Macs, but the iMac itself never lets this go through for itself when I'm on another Mac. It just fails to connect. Screen Sharing does work though.
Any idea? Is there some setting, somewhere, blocking this for me?
I have discovered something. If I turn the Mac OS X Firewall on the iMac completely off, I can then access its files. However, no matter how lenient if the firewall is on, it won't let the connection go through from another mac for file sharing. What could be wrong here?
Many thanks.
