So I've tried some tips, I've come across already, and they don't seem to work. I know there are free services like Drop Box to share files with family and friends, and you can upload large files (to the limit of your space allotted). However, upload is very slow. What I'm trying to do is this. I want a folder on my Mac Pro to be accessible to anyone I give access to, where ever they are, on whatever computer they are using (Mac or PC). Much faster for me to copy over files to that folder in my system, than to upload to a service like Drop Box. Login set up if possible, but definitely only able to access the specific folder I assign and nowhere else on my system.
I've tried the Web Sharing method, I can access my system remotely, but I see everything on my drive. This isn't a good thing. I've tried the SMB method, but I am unable to connect remotely. I haven't tried the FTP method, as that apparently leaves access unencrypted. Any input would be greatly appreciated, or veered in the right direction.
These are the methods I've tried with no success.

Please note, my system is hard wired to a wireless router, not directly to the cable modem.
Thanks.
