Hello,

Great Forum, and folks.
Thnks for all the previous help.

Not too sharp with this "stuff" anymore.
Old age problem, I guess.

I just updated to Sonoma.

Saw a few references to File Sharing, and the desireability to turn it OFF.
Sounds like a very good idea.

Am lost in trying to do it.
Lots of the links given afe probsbly old, and the wordage is now diffefent.

If someone gets a few spare minutes, might they, please, give
me step by step explicit instructions on how to do it ?

BTW: exactly what does "File Sharing" allow or do ?

And, I guess I should also ask here how to turn off iCloud ?

What else should be turn off, or deleted to insure maximum security for files, etc. ?

Thanks; much apprecited,
Bob

File Sharing shares disks or folders using SMB protocol. Shared disks or folders are only accessible on the same network as your Mac w/ file sharing turned don. Only accounts on the Mac w/ file sharing turned on can be given permissions to access shared disks and folders from another system, i.e. when you attempt to access the share from another system, you will be prompted to enter credentials.

Settings > General > Sharing > File Sharing (turn on/off)... press the "i" button to configure folders to share and which users can access.

And, I guess I should also ask here how to turn off iCloud ?
If you are signed into iCloud, your profile should appear at the top of the Settings app.
Settings > (Your iCloud profile) > "Sign out" button (scroll to bottom)

If you want to turn off iCloud individual services,
Settings > (Your iCloud profile) > iCloud ... and turn off the services you don't want active

What else should be turn off, or deleted to insure maximum security for files, etc. ?
What is your definition of "maximum security"? If you really want "maximum security", don't connect your Mac to the internet. An "air gapped" computer is the most secure.
