I want to transfer files from my ibook to my roomates laptop over firewire.
I added a new port in network port config., selected builtin-firewire, checked my ftp access on, gave an ip manually to my comp using dhcp.
then cheked off all other ports, so only firewire port is active..
but still no luck..what do i need to do with teh windows xp, and what more with my ibook..?
thanks a lot

edit: should i select '6-4' instead of 'built in firewire' when i make the new port? coz his firewire port has only 4 pins...what else?

6 to 4 is IPv6 to IPv4.

You cant do IP over FireWire with PCs because the technology to do so doesnt exist yet.

edit: actually on second thought i think you can do that in Windows XP, but nothing less.

use a network wire

Any network wire will do. The Mac is smart enought to realize it needs to flip its network port so that makes the regular wire a cross over cable.

Just plug it in, turn on Windows sharing, give it a few seconds, then have him browse in Network for your Mac.
