File transfer via external SD card slot

Just got the MacBook Air and so far I'm loving it. I have also NEVER used an apple before, being a PC guy, I've had no idea what I have been missing out on. The world of Apple truly is GREAT!!! I am however having problems transferring all of my photos and videos from my PC laptop ( which I have backed/copied on SD Card), I have a total of 668 photos on card, although, when I insert it into my MBA iphotos bounces up and when I click on it it's only telling me that I have 213 photos :-( I am a lost lil lamb in this vast plain....could somebody please help me understand. Also please don't hold me being a previous PC user against me. After all....ignorance is bliss they say.lol
