File transfers over Airport Express Base-station extremely slow

I have MBA 2011 connected via 2011 APexpress network. File sharing is enabled but is transferring stupid slow. 900 MB took more than 1 hour!

Both machines have fixed IP and are running OS X Lion.

How can I speed this up?

And oh yeah, screen sharing is working brilliantly and fast, though I turned it off to see I transfer speeds would increase. No luck there tho

Not had this experience, what connection speed are you running? sounds like 802.11b i.e. 10Mb/s

In context I transferred 80Gb over an express and it took less than 4 hours. I've since moved on to a wired connection because the rest of my network was gigabit...
