I want to turn off file vault but everytime i go to turn it off it says there is not enough free space for it. I freed up about 13 Gigs of space and it still says i need to free up 4084.0 GB, like it had been saying each time i tried. this seems like an error bc my HD is only 60 Gigs does anyone know whats goin on and how i can turn off file vault?

The 4.000 or something GB is (probably) just a miscalculation triggered by File Vault when it wants more (free) space on your HD to move the files of your home folder out of the disk image (which File Vault really is).

What you need to do is move some (more) stuff out of your home folder onto other parts of your drive (eg. /Users/Shared/).

If you have a large iTunes library, I'd start by moving the music... :)

Then maybe the iPhoto library, if you have a lot of images...?

Anyhow, you got the idea. Once your home folder is smaller than the free space on your HD, try disabling File Vault again.

Also, a bit of patience is a virtue. Bumping threads are frowned upon, and especially after just an hour...
