I am working in agricultural extension. Whenever we visit a farmer, we have to fill in a visitation sheet with all the info we gave the farmer... on paper.

Now we want to move to Filemaker and Filemaker Go on iPads. However, it is not really clear to me how to get the data from the iPad to a centralized desktop.
Can Filemaker Go send the data via IP (we are not allowed to use 3G)?
To update the database on the desktop automatically, do we need Filemaker Server?

It is not a problem for us to set up databases, our problem lies in the question of how to get the data from the iPad to a desktop that functions as server.

Our agents are spread over several Pacific islands, so IP or FTP over Wifi would be the best for us.... or would this be a case for the iCloud?

Any hint or links would be highly appreciated.

Sorry if I sound a bit confusing, but I just got tasked to look into this issue some five minutes ago.
