Hi guys
For 6 years i have my trusted workhorse G4 machine. It got time to get an upgrade and i bought a second hand iMac and a 2008 MacBook.
Since than i have a problem with the "file viewing" in finder.
I never really liked, or understood" iPhoto and created my own file system.
On the two new machines i can select in the drop down menu "Clean up selection, Arrange by ...., or show view options till my fingers are hurt, as soon as I close the same folder it will look something like this:mad::mad:

I do the same as you. I created my own file system for organizing my photos. And it's a good thing I did because I've had iPhoto Library get corrupted and I might have lost some original photos!

I keep my photos on an external HDD. I have folders for years and inside those, I have photos for dates. I import everything into iPhoto, one folder at a time where each folder becomes its own event. I do NOT allow iPhoto to copy photos and this allows me to have a tiny 10 Gig iPhoto Library containing metadata on over 200 Gig of photos. Faces work. Places work. Everything works but I don't have to deal with iPhoto bogging down.

In finder, I always view details. I always show hidden files and I never hide extensions. These are habits from windows and linux that have served me well over the years. I sort by most recently modified. I ignore OS X Lion's "arrange by" options. It works really well for me. I never have the problems you are describing.

Step 1, In View, select "arrange by: none"
Step 2, In View, select "as list" and "show hidden files"

I should also mention that I use totalfinder because I like tabbed finder window instead of dozens of finder windows all over the place. I also have a proper cut and paste for those few times I need it. It's just a personal preference, though. There's nothing at all wrong with Finder to begin with.

Hi r0k thanks for the message
I never had this problem with my old g4 The file setup worked just as it was planed. Its just now with both new machines that i have this problem. Funny enough, if i put the HDD on my g4 it does not happen!!!!
