I have a Windows PC, Linksys router and a macbook pro. Whenever I copy files/folder over the network, from PC to Mac, I have permission problems. "Everyone" has "no access" and I have to add "Administrator" permission. A copied file's permissions looks like this.

How can I fix it, 'cause I have to authenticate myself and change the permissions of each file, which is quite annoying.

erp. read that wrong. you already know how to do it for every single file. not sure about batch files or stopping it from happening.

Are you starting from the pc end or the mac end? Copying files over sitting at the mac end, they should have the permissions of whoever you are logged in as. If you are copying them to a "public" folder logged in as "guest" from windows, they could have very strange permissions, indeed.

1 - Don't log in from windows to your mac as guest. Set up your shares so they require you to be logged in as yourself and when you put files on your mac they should get your normal permissions.

2 - Don't sit at your windows box to copy files. Do it from your mac.

3 - when you copy files over from windows, put them all in one folder. Then on your mac, click that folder, pick get info, pick permissions, click the gear and make sure you pick "apply to enclosed items", then give yourself permission to the main folder and everything inside should get fixed as well. I know, you're still messing with permissions but at least you only have to do it once.

For some reason, its working fine now. Maybe its because I repaired permissions from "Disk utility".

Files copied from Windows Have Permissions

We have been experiencing this issue on a daily basis since we installed our Mac OS X Server 10.6.4 - 2.26GHz Quad Core.

Is there a permanent cure for it? Our PC users submit images for our website in a specified folder. When we copy them to our Mac Server we have to rebuild the permissions every time. I'd rather not have to worry about remembering to rebuild permissions on the Mac Server everyday - though I'm sure it could be scripted.
