Files Disappear!

Hey,
Recently after I've finishing downloading something or saving a word file to desktop the file icon doesn't appear on the desktop. I have to search it on spotlight and open it and then the icon reappears. Can anybody help me?

Look for a file named com.apple.finder.plist in your Preferences folder (use Spotlight) and drag it to the Trash (don't empty), then restart.

Thanks m8 it worked! Just out of interest do you know what happened? So I can avoid having this problem again.

As far as I know, it's just a random bug in OSX and is pretty unavoidable. I haven't found it to be linked to anything yet. The good news is it's easily fixed and deleting the Finder preference file is usually quite harmless.
